Military Odyssey, 2000 years of History in action!
Multi-Period Living History Festival
Detling (Kent county)
Detling village and civil parish is located north east of Maidstone in Kent, on the slope of the North Downs, a ridge of chalk hills. The village lies on the Pilgrims' Way - the historic route taken by pilgrims from Winchester in Hampshire to the shrine of Thomas Becket at Canterbury in Kent.
Detling invites the public to the largest multi-period reenactment show – the Military Odyssey, involving over 4000 reenactors and living history enthusiasts. The event covers a vast period of global history, including the Roman, Viking and Middle ages, the English Civil War, the Napoleonic era, the American Civil War, the Wild West, World Wars I & II and Vietnam war, right up to the present day. Various living history displays of different periods, including arena and battlefield events, as well as civil life displays in the encampments provide a unique chance to the visitors to smell, hear and touch over 2000 years of history. There is also an opportunity to admire some of the rarest military vehicles and browse amongst hundreds of trade stalls selling a huge range of historical and collectable goods.
