England's Medieval Festival
Herstmonceux (East Sussex county)
Nestling within the East Sussex countryside, in Herstmonceux village, the 15th century Herstmonceux Castle represents one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. In this truly magical setting every year, since 1992, the history is brought to life during the England's Medieval Festival, the most magnificent celebration of the Middle Ages in the country. Over 1000 knights, bowmen and men-at-arms lay siege to the Castle, recreating the large medieval battle with full cannon support.
Activities and entertainment are provided for all: battles, skill-at-arms tournaments, breathtaking falconry, archery competitions, historical parades, puppet shows, jesters, strolling minstrels, medieval market, fabulous craft stalls, living history encampments, Kids' Kingdom, music, colour and dance.
