Kamianets-Podilskyi (Khmelnitsky region)
Kamianets-Podilskyi stands on the Smotrych River in western Ukraine, about 75 km to the north-east of Chernivtsi and 98 km to the south of Khmelnitsky. Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress - is the main tourist attraction of Kamianets-Podilskyi museum-reserve, visited by almost 900.000 tourists each year. It is also called by the locals “Old Castle”, due to its 7 centuries’ history. The Fortress has been the major defensive structure in the city fortifications, and one of the most impregnable castle in the territory of modern Ukraine.
Since 2005 Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress has served as a platform for the military historical festivals of the European level, such as “Terra Heroica”, one of the largest thematic military history festivals in the Eastern Europe, dedicated to the military and civil life of the 17th century. The visitors can walk along the camps and experience the military drill, period crafts and daily activities of the past. Nearly 500 soldiers meet in the battle reenactment under the Old Castle walls. The whole old city becomes a big stage displaying the subjects of over 350 years ago. The guests can also see performances of ethnic music groups, kobza and lyre players, take part in choreography workshops, enjoy singing performances in Baroque style and the contests of archers and athletes.
