Magic in the Medieval Village
Magie nel Borgo
Dates 2016 to be announced
Masserano (Biella, Piemonte) ITALY
Every year in late June a night of magic wraps Masserano, a town located in the far southeast of the province of Biella, in region Piedmont, about 70 km from Turin and 12 km from Biella, in an area surrounded by a clay flat terrain, called "Baragge", characterized by the presence of grass ("Molina cerulean"), heath, mountain arnica, and sparse trees (birch, poplar and sessile oak), one of the last examples of European savannah, protected now thanks to the creation of a "natural reserve", where to admire different species of animals and plants, and to enjoy excursions on foot or horseback. At the annual historical festival, for a long night, Masserano goes back to its former glory, at the time of princes and knights, turning into a medieval village led by wizards, witches, fortune tellers, musicians, fire-eaters, flag wavers, bridesmaids , knights, archers, falconers and many other costumed characters. Inside the enchanted streets, in the most characteristic corners of the town are set up markets of medieval craftsmen and hacks, military camps with ancient knightly jousting, themed theater ... and much more! Throughout the evening the official currency of the village are the "Testoni," the old currency of the Principality of Masserano. Thanks to a “touring dinner” around ancient houses, visitors can enjoy drinks and dishes from medieval and Piedmontese cuisine. And after dinner and the full immersion in the magic of the old village, a last spell takes place at midnight with a wonderful fireworks show.
