Priozersk (Leningrad region)
The city of Priozersk is situated in the Leningrad region, at the northwestern shore of Lake Ladoga. Until the beginning of the 17th it was known as Korela, playing a significant role in the political and cultural life of the area. The main landmark of Priozersk, Korela Fortress, has historically been was the center for the Karelians of the Karelian Isthmus, and from time to time it was the northwestern outpost of the realm of the Russians or the eastern outpost of the realm of the Swedes.
The Korela Fortress hosts every year the festival of historical reenactment, dedicated to its medieval past of the 14-15th centuries and called “Russian Fortress”. The programme includes staged battles, jousting, ancient outdoor games, horse tournaments, medieval music, theatre performances and many other activities and displays for all tastes.
