Medieval military camps, duels, day and night catapults and fireballs sieges, traditional culinary specialties and traditional music are a small part of the spectacle that is organized by the City Museum Sisak and Sisak Tourist Board at fortress "Old town".
The medieval festival called "The Battles for Sisak A.D. 1593" is a unique union of historical facts and ways of life in the Middle Ages with the authentic heritage and cultural values of the Sisak fortress, which is one of the few surviving examples of military architecture, but also a witness of the Middle Ages. "The Battles for Sisak A.D. 1593" re-enacts the battle and the events of 1593., when, after years of siege, Christian army's major victory stopped Ottoman breakthrough to the west. Last year, the festival was attended by a total of 60 originally costumed participants and members of all kinds of historic guilds, such as the Association Order of the Knights of Ruzica City, the Society of Knights of the Golden Chalice, Dubovački archers, Aureus unicornis, Senjski uskoks and the Czech musical groups Codex, etc. On that day, all visitors have an opportunity to go back in time and visit the Middle Ages. In addition to the display of medieval life, warfare, chivalry, sieges, torture devices and music, all visitors will be able to enjoy the flavors of medieval dishes prepared according to original recipes and with the help of local restaurants.
