La Saint-Jean d'été de Drulingen
Drulingen (Alsace region)
It's in his past that man finds the roots needed to meet its future. Almost forgotten, the tradition of St. John and summer solstice is brought to life and lighted up again at Drulingen.
The festival of St. John is a community celebration bringing together people in a friendly atmosphere. It is a solemn celebration and a folk party combining religious rites and local customs. It is a feast of magic with ritual bonfires and picking St John’s herbs as special talismans with healing powers. It is a protective feast, aimed to prevent diseases of persons, crops and cattle and to protect them from evil. Finally, it is a feast of redemption, with a scarecrow of disappointments and hopes burnt in the St John’s bonfire.
The event includes handicraft and entertainment, music in all its forms, dances around the bonfire. Guests can visit the medieval market, costumed shows and numerous concerts, try various workshops and many other activities.
