In most images St Lucia is portrayed with the eyes on a dish. Another characteristic symbol is a lamp in her hands (meaning the light of Christ which Lucia spread during her tortures). Sometimes St Lucia is also portrayed with a sword and a palm in her arms as symbols of martyrdom; or hitched by oxen; or with the neck stabbed by the sword.
